BCM325 Part1 Blog post-Critical Self Redlection of Live Film Analysis

This article is my analysis and reflection on the three films screened by BCM325 to judge my understanding of the content of the films and my self-reflection on the interactive criticism. I was very interested in this new model of learning analysis, because I had never experienced anything so special before. By watching movies in class and analyzing the plots of movies, I learn theoretical knowledge in class. On the one hand, I exercise the expression of language ability, on the other hand, I strengthen the knowledge of theoretical study and practical application. This learning method is much more effective than the relatively boring learning and then collecting and preparing materials. Not only that, after expressing your personal understanding of the film, you can quickly check the opinions of other students or mentors and put forward corresponding views for your reference, which can quickly let you understand the theoretical ideas brought by the film from multiple perspectives. So in the first film analysis, I got very fast feedback and good influence.

This was the first time I published a film analysis, and I was very happy to receive an immediate response from all quarters. However, at the same time, I also found my own shortcomings in understanding different perspectives. Words that are too strong on personal views have lost the state of objective evaluation of the film, which makes it difficult for me to express my own thoughts and analysis that are objective enough in subsequent films.

Starting from the analysis of the second movie, my question gradually began to be exposed. After writing about my understanding and analysis of movies, I found that people do not have as much attraction to text as to pictures. In my opinion, the combination of understanding the content of movies and theoretical knowledge requires words to present your personal opinions and judgments. However, it is precisely this factor that deprives people of the desire and ideas to explore it. On the contrary, when you add corresponding pictures and movie clips for analysis, it can attract people to stop and watch. This is what I need to improve. So, my second movie reflection only received a thumbs up and no comments below, which made me feel terrible, even though I thought I wrote it well. At the same time, I noticed that some students are using AI tools to complete movie parsing work. I don’t know if this is allowed, but can personal explanations of movie AI or future technology really be described through AI tools? I don’t think so, so I still insist on using my own ideas and words to describe my personal analysis of the movie.

The commentary on the last movie of the trilogy made me feel sad. Because in fact, I put a lot of effort into describing the movie Ghost in The Shell. I watched this movie when I was very young, and it had great ideological and educational significance for me. It was also my first real exposure to the theoretical significance of AI and cyberpunk. After analyzing the plot of the movie frame by frame, I roughly summarized the content of the movie and raised constructive questions in combination with today’s society, such as “Is the progress and development of the technological era good or bad for our society?” “In fact, the means of future technology are created by humans to satisfy their own desires!” As well as the initial exploration and understanding of the cyberpunk style world by humans in the early stages, it has played a good leading role in future films with the same style or theme style. At the same time, I also added camera scenes, especially the realistic depiction of cyberpunk style in the movie. It is said that all the content of this movie is hand drawn. So this is a true exploration of future technology by early people without the use of any technological tools, such as chat, gpt, and other applications. When I was looking forward to receiving a lot of comments and likes, reality poured cold water on me. I didn’t receive any comments or likes until the end of the course. This has been very challenging for me, and I am looking forward to discussing with classmates or mentors who also love this movie to determine whether my ability to analyze in real-time has improved during this period of learning.

In the future, film analysis will undergo significant changes due to technological advancements and societal trends. With the rise of social media, traditional film critics are no longer the sole authority; a multitude of voices, including bloggers and video creators, now contribute diverse perspectives online. Additionally, the development of artificial intelligence offers new possibilities for film analysis. AI systems can delve into films, extracting key insights and even offering personalized recommendations based on user preferences. However, challenges arise, such as the potential for bias in AI systems and the risk of traditional critics being overshadowed. Nevertheless, the future promises a more varied and intelligent landscape for film analysis, enhancing the audience’s viewing experience while maintaining the need for critical thinking and human understanding.

From these three movies, it is not difficult to find that future technology has gradually come from people’s beautiful yearning to the real world. In the early days, people could only put these ideas in movies. Now, artificial intelligence applications such as Chat gpt, smart home, mobile phone, computer, and some other Ai systems have already existed in our lives. People’s exploration of science and technology and judgment of the possibility of future science and technology development are not limited to thinking patterns. This diversity fosters future possibilities.
